DIAKOPTO

A few miles west of Diakofto is the famous tourist resort Elaionas (Trupia) that attracts many tourists and has all the facilities for a pleasant stay and service. Surrounding villages are Terpsithea and dependency (which belonged to the monastery of the Great Cave).
The settlement Trypia oldest settlement in the census of 1835 to 4 residents only. Another version is that because the houses in the area were very low which was called “holes,” and was the reason for the settlement was named so.

NIKOLAIKA VILLAGE

This is a developing seaside village with great tourist traffic, especially during the summer. Rodia is a pretty village typical of the region with a large square and a picturesque church with a bell hanging from the branches of a large tree. In the square there are cafes, playground which has busy life and activity all year round.

The two temples of the village celebrated on December 6, Saint Nicholas and 6 August, the small church of the Transfiguration, when organized and great folk festival.
On the beach you will have the opportunity to enjoy the crystal clear sea and the beautiful beach with sand and pebbles.

MAMOUSIA VILLAGE

 

mamousiaFrom Rodia begins a road that leads to the small picturesque village Mamousia.
There is an archaeological site with Hellenistic cemetery, ruins of walls and theate.  Traces the ancient Kyrenia, according to Pausanias, was named by the ruler or the place or the Keryniti river (on the position of a controversy after the others put in place todays Kyrenia).

The legend says that in ancient Kyrenia lived Kerynitis doe Venus,  the deer which Hercules had to surrender to Eurystheus, without being injured. There was the famous temple, so Eumenides built by Orestes after his acquittal, the vote of Athena, by the court of the Areopagus of Athens for the murder of his mother. The ancient city had decorated temples and statues.

The ancient Kyrenia was one of the twelve most important cities and Achaian remarkably bloom with the arrival of the warlords.
For enthusiasts ecotourism recommend the fantastic journey that starts from Mamousia, passes from the archaeological site of Ancient Kyrenia and leads to plateau
“Saints Asomatoi.” So Walk between the vines to the northern part of the plateau from where you get a fantastic view to the Corinthian and descending the mountain pass from the cave of Hercules to finally arrive as Diakopto.

TRAPEZA VILLAGE

Trapeza has the wonderful beach of the (Punta) and as you go higher you can enjoy the panoramic position with breathtaking views of the whole Corinthian Sea.

On a slope above the village is the Monastery of the Holy Trinity that was built on the ruins of the temple of the goddess Earth, from which one can still “Dome” (conical structure of the Mycenaean era) which was converted into a Christian church. Inside the church there are paintings from 1757 AD
The Monastery of the Holy Trinity was founded in 1936 AD and by 1945 there were monks. Later was devastated, but then actions of the Bishop of Kalavryta and Egialias Mr. Ambrose was restored. In a plateau just above the monastery will come across large areas of vineyards and the ruined Abbey of St. Nicholas.

Finds from the ancient city Voura found in Trapeza (although some scholars place it above the village castle in Upper Diakopto. There is also the opinion that Voura was in the place that today is Mamousia). The ancient Voura named after the daughter of Ion and Helice, belonged to the ancient Ionian and Achaean Dodecapolis and pioneered the establishment of the Achaean League.

Trapezas original residents were Ionians and Achaeans but after the earthquake in 373 BC that destroyed the propeller, and caused her sinking. Investigations in the area have found ruins of an ancient theater, traces of walls, numerous shrines with exquisite art statues, coins depict the cave and the statue of Hercules, etc.

The area is famous for its beautiful scenery, especially in the spring when the cherry blossom and autumn when the trees change their leaves in a thousand shades of gold!

katholiko named To Catholic village located near Upper Diakopto is another place with a fantastic view to the Corinthian gulf dominated by green. Here, time stands still and so fragrant morning breeze as Myron from mountain herbs and sea salt.

Somewhere in between the Catholic and the ANO DIAKOPTO thought to have been built in the ancient city of VOURA.

In the village square is the Church of the Assumption, a Cultural Centre and cafe. In recent years the village has become as important beautify updates and maintenance in older homes that attract new residents permanent and temporary. In the Catholic functioned during the Turkish Secret School while it was the seat of the Diocese Kernitsa older.

Zachloritika is a picturesque village west of Diakopto at the foot of Mount Marathia. Their church, St. Haralambos, celebrated on February 10. In the village center plane trees waiting to sit in the shade and enjoy your coffee, taking a deep breath from the bustling modern everyday life. The region produces products that are identified with a healthy diet, such as olive oil, oranges, lemons, wine, vegetables, etc.

The mountain, towering volume unfolds over Zachloritika, there is a cave which is identical with that of Hercules. ELIKI Local Community Eliki is located on the foothills of the Prophet Elijah. It is developed by a beautiful manicured gardens and homes. The main church, St. Athanasius celebrated on January 18 so organized and religious festival.

RIZOMYLOS VILLAGE

The village’s name came from a mill that was at the root of the mountain. It is a picturesque seaside village with great tourist activity. With a pristine beach with blue waters, where you will find hotels, rooms, restaurants, bars and generally a nice and good tourist infrastructure.

The village church is dedicated to the Assumption, built in 1903 and has paintings of the great artist George Akratinou Kanelopoulos. Celebrates it on August 15.

In the area of Rizomilos ongoing excavation by archaeologist Dora Katsonopoulou, with already significant results of investigations for the discovery of ancient Helice.

KERINIA VILLAGE

keriniaDipla located in helix New Kyrenia, a new village with modern houses and a large square which has already built an outdoor theater and now being built and the church of St. Nicholas.

Each year, during the months of July and August, the township Diakopto organizes cultural events “Elikeia – Neptune” and the beginning of these events take place in the helix. Events are successful but in all districts during which visitors have the chance to enjoy theater performances, traditional dances, songs, etc.

The oldest village Kyrenia (Girne Gardenia or High) is mountainous approximately 4km. While the residents are mainly engaged in agricultural work: viticulture, olive and dried grapes.

VROSTHENA VILLAGE

The village “Vrosthena” or “Hill”, the Municipal Unity Diakopto, is nailed to the mountain, 22 kilometers off the switch and an altitude of 800 meters, the road to the Great Cave and Kalavryta. Its history is lost forever. We meet for the first time on record, the “land of Vostitsa” Venetian, called “Vrestena” or “Vrostena” as the neighborhood then switch. The text is the 1690.
